CAROLINA Avenue
Capitol Hill, Washington, D.C.
In this Victorian home on Capitol Hill, our scope included a main level renovation, full furnishings and exterior paint and lighting selections. We relocated bulky ductwork and an aging waste pipe allowing us to rework the main level floor plan, including an expanded kitchen and right-sized powder room. The full kitchen renovation included a timeless yet modern tile, custom inset cabinetry, nickel and brass fixtures, and stained wood elements to reflect the original millwork in the living room. We refinished the original heart of pine hardwood floors in the perfect medium tone. Our goal was to elevate the home’s architectural details including original millwork, fireplace, and floors by adding a small arch between the kitchen and dining spaces and opening the home's rear wall to let the outdoors in. Under 1,500 square feet, this row house required small space solutions in terms of furnishings and storage, which included a hidden coat closet in the kitchen and ottomans in the living room to act as additional seating and a coffee table solution.
